Boilerplate

One-liner

Onym is an open-source, end-to-end encrypted group messenger anchored on Stellar -- no accounts, no phone numbers, and no company in the loop with the authority to disable yours.

50 words

Onym is an open-source group messenger built so that no single operator can disable a user, deplatform a group, or hand over a recoverable social graph. Identity, keys, and message history live on the user's device. Group rules are anchored on a public Stellar smart contract; anyone can audit them, no one can override them.

200 words

Onym is a privacy-first group messenger built on a single principle: no single operator should be able to read your conversations or reconstruct your social graph. Where most messengers run on a trusted company's servers, Onym replaces the operator with a public Stellar smart contract that defines a group's rules -- who can admit, who can remove, who can speak -- and a swappable transport of Nostr relays that carry encrypted blobs. Identity is twelve BIP-39 words generated and stored on the user's device; there are no accounts, phone numbers, or email addresses to compromise. Group membership is verified with zero-knowledge proofs (PLONK over BLS12-381): a member proves “I belong to this group” on chain without revealing which member they are, and the Soroban contract verifies the proof. Every cryptographic primitive in use -- BIP-39, secp256k1 / Schnorr, Ed25519, X25519, BLS12-381, PLONK, Poseidon -- has been studied, deployed, and attacked by cryptographers for decades. A relayer pays Stellar fees so users never need a funded account; it sees ciphertext and connection metadata, never plaintext or membership. The iOS app, the Android app, the contracts, and the relayer are all MIT-licensed on GitHub. Onym publishes its threat model with every release.
